Living here

Lloret de Vistalegre is a farming village in the middle of the Pla, about 45 minutes from Palma by car. Around 1,700 people live in the municipality, which split from neighbouring Sineu about a century ago. A Monday market, a primary school and a yearly fig festival anchor village life.

Lloret sits on a small rise in the Pla and is one of several villages that claim to be the centre of Mallorca. After the conquest of 1229, land here went to knights from Manresa in Catalonia, and the settlement took that name. It later became Llorito, after the friary of Our Lady of Loreto, and took its present name when it split from Sineu in the 1920s. The parish church of Nostra Senyora de Loreto was the Dominican friars' church. The friary beside it, sold off in parts in the 19th century, now belongs mostly to the town hall, and its cloister and halls host plays, talks and exhibitions.

A small market sets up in Plaça de Jaume I on Monday mornings. The health unit on Carrer Senyora de Manresa opens on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 to 15:00 and on Fridays from 12:00 to 15:00; on other days the family doctor sees Lloret patients at the health centre in Sineu, whose urgent care point covers evenings, nights and weekends. There is a nursery for under-threes and a state infant and primary school, and older children go on to IES Sineu. The municipal library opens on Monday to Thursday evenings, and there is a sports centre and a municipal pool that opens in summer.

Sa Comuna, 131 hectares of pine woodland and scrub, has been common land for centuries and a public forest since 1927, with a small chapel at s’Aljub. Old public wells are scattered around the fields. The best-loved fiesta is the Festa des Sequer, a fig fair with an exhibition of fig varieties and food and craft markets, held for the 45th time on 29 August 2026. A May fair, summer fiestas for Sant Domingo, the patron saint, and the feast of the Mare de Déu de Loreto on 10 December fill out the calendar, and rockets and fireworks are part of almost every celebration.

By car, Palma is about 45 minutes away, south-west through Pina and then along the Ma-15, and the airport about the same. Sineu, with its train station, health centre and secondary school, is about 10 minutes to the north-east, and Inca, home to the area’s public hospital, about 20. TIB bus 432 runs every day between Sineu and Algaida about every hour and a quarter, connecting at Algaida with line 403 to Palma. The nearest beaches, on the Bay of Alcúdia at Can Picafort, are 30 to 35 minutes away.

Who buys here

Lloret has grown in recent decades: its population has roughly doubled since the early 1990s, and by the mid-2000s foreign residents, Germans among them, were already a noticeable minority. Farming is still the main activity, according to the town hall. It is best for buyers after a quiet village house or a country home who are happy to drive to Sineu, Inca or Palma for most things.

Property

The village is compact, with traditional stone houses along narrow streets around the church and the old friary. Beyond it, fields of cereals, figs and vegetables hold old estates (possessions) such as Llorac, Son Gelabert and Son Estela, country houses and a few agroturismes. A new general plan to replace the 1981 planning rules was given initial approval in January 2026, and while it goes through, licences are suspended across the municipality except for works that fit both the old and the new rules. Check what is allowed before you buy, and on rural land make sure every building is legal and registered.

Can I get to Palma by public transport?

With a change at Algaida. TIB line 432 stops in Lloret every day, about every hour and a quarter, and connects at Algaida with line 403 to Palma’s Estació Intermodal; the trip takes about an hour, and one early weekday bus runs straight through. Or drive about 10 minutes to Sineu station, where trains reach Palma in about 50 minutes.

Where is the nearest doctor?

The village health unit opens on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 to 15:00 and on Friday from 12:00 to 15:00. On other days Lloret patients are seen at the Sineu health centre, which also runs the out-of-hours urgent care point. The hospital for the area is the Hospital Comarcal d’Inca, about 20 minutes by car.

Can I build or extend a house here?

Check first. Lloret still works with planning rules from 1981, and the town hall says it is one of only four municipalities in Mallorca without a general plan. A new plan drafted by Consell de Mallorca technicians was given initial approval in January 2026, and with it licences across the whole municipality were suspended while the plan goes through, except for projects that fit both the old and the new rules. Ask the town hall what applies to the property you are looking at.

What is the Festa des Sequer?

Lloret’s fig festival and its best-loved fiesta, held on a Saturday in late August or early September (29 August in 2026, its 45th edition). The main day brings an exhibition of fig varieties and food and craft markets, with about twenty stalls selling fig-based food, and a fig-drying workshop and an opening speech come in the days before.

Is there a school in the village?

Yes: a nursery for under-threes and a state infant and primary school, CEIP Antònia Alzina. For secondary school, children go to IES Sineu, about 10 minutes away.
