These homes are for residents who qualify for protected housing, not for the open market, but they show where the Govern is adding homes in Mallorca’s towns.

  • Balearic government rules out limits on buying second homes

According to the Majorca Daily Bulletin’s report of question time on 13 October 2026, housing minister José Luis Mateo said the Balearic government will not restrict the purchase of second homes, after Més per Mallorca called for action on speculation. Buying a holiday home in Mallorca remains open to all buyers, but opposition proposals show the debate is not over.

It is in force now, but because Parliament has been dissolved, Congress’s standing committee still has to approve it.

  • Proposed 100% tax on non-EU home buyers lapses as Parliament is dissolved

The Socialist group’s bill that included a tax of up to 100% on homes bought by people and companies resident outside the EU lapsed on 6 October 2026, when Spain’s Parliament was dissolved for the 29 November general election. It was never debated and never became law. British, American and other non-EU buyers pay the same purchase taxes as everyone else.
