Living here

Camp de Mar is a small resort on Mallorca’s south-west coast, in the municipality of Andratx, between Peguera and Port d’Andratx. It is built around a short sandy beach with a tiny islet reached by a wooden footbridge, and has an 18-hole golf course in the hills behind. It works best as a quiet holiday or second home, with Port d’Andratx and Palma within easy reach.

The village occupies a small bay between the headlands of Cap del Llamp and Cap Andritxol, about four kilometres from Andratx town. The beach is roughly 180 metres of fine, pale sand with clear water, and in season there are sun loungers, parasols and water sports. Just off the sand, a rocky islet known as s’Illeta is joined to the shore by a wooden footbridge, and a restaurant takes up much of it. The smaller cove of Platja de ses Dones lies just to the west.

Tourism here goes back to 1932, when the first hotel was built, but most of what you see dates from the 1980s onwards. The first residential estates went up then, followed by more hotels, apartments and villas in the 1990s. There is no historic village centre and no parish church, only a small chapel dedicated to Sant Joaquim and Santa Aina, where Mass is held outdoors in summer. Camp de Mar is above all a holiday place. Only about 240 people were registered as living here at the start of 2025, so it gets much quieter once the season ends.

For daily shopping there are a few small supermarkets, a bakery, a pharmacy and cash machines close to the beach, and larger supermarkets about five minutes' drive away in Peguera. Andratx town, around ten minutes by car, has the public health centre, a state primary school and a market every Wednesday. Port d’Andratx, also about ten minutes away, has a small health unit, a primary school and a Monday market, and S’Arracó holds its market on Saturdays.

Golf de Andratx, an 18-hole course that is open all year, lies in the hills just behind the village. A walking route leads out to the watchtower on Cap Andritxol, built in the 16th century to look out for pirates. In July the village holds its own festes in honour of Sant Joaquim and Santa Aina, and a Sant Joan market is held on the eve of Sant Joan in June. Island buses between Palma and Port d’Andratx (TIB line 101) stop in the village, a short walk from the beach, and there is a taxi rank.

Who buys here

Camp de Mar grew up around holidays and second homes, and that still shapes who buys here. The homes on offer, from beach apartments to villas on the slopes and complexes by the golf course, mainly appeal to people looking for a holiday base, and the small registered population suggests that many owners spend only part of the year here. There is no school in the village, so it suits couples and retirees more easily than families with school-age children.

Property

There is very little old housing. Building took off in the 1980s with three residential estates, Biniorella, es Salinar and Cap Andritxol, and Biniorella lies on the slopes west of the beach. The 1990s added apartment blocks, more villas and several hotels. Today the stock runs from holiday apartments near the beach and residential complexes around the golf course to detached villas on the hillsides around the bay, almost all of it built from the 1980s onwards.

Questions buyers ask

Is Camp de Mar in Andratx or Calvià?

Andratx. It is one of the municipality’s five settlements, together with Andratx town, Port d’Andratx, S’Arracó and Sant Elm. Peguera, just to the east, belongs to Calvià.

Is Camp de Mar busy all year?

No. It is mainly a holiday resort of hotels and second homes, and only about 240 people were registered as residents at the start of 2025. It is lively in summer and much quieter in winter, when residents rely on Peguera, Andratx town and Port d’Andratx for most services.

Where are the nearest doctors and schools?

There is a pharmacy in the village. The public health centre is in Andratx town, with a smaller unit in Port d’Andratx, and Son Espases, the main public hospital, is about 30 minutes away in Palma. Camp de Mar has no school: Andratx town and Port d’Andratx have state primary schools, and the nearest international school is in Calvià, about 15 to 20 minutes' drive.

Can I reach Palma by public transport?

Yes, by bus: TIB line 101 between Palma and Port d’Andratx stops in Camp de Mar. For everyday life a car makes things much easier, as the health centre, schools and larger shops are all in other villages.

Is there golf nearby?

Yes. Golf de Andratx, an 18-hole course, is right behind the village and open all year. Santa Ponsa, about 15 minutes away, has three more courses.
