Living here

Port Verd (Puerto Verde in Castilian) is a small residential area on the bay of Son Servera, on Mallorca’s east coast, just north of Cala Bona. Low-rise houses and small apartment complexes, many with pools, line a largely rocky shore. If you want a quiet base within walking distance of Cala Bona, about 75 minutes from Palma, it is worth a look.

Port Verd lines the Passeig del Pintor Miquel Vives, the road that runs north from Cala Bona’s harbour, with quiet residential streets off it. Further north the road passes Port Nou and Port Vell on its way to the villa estate of Costa dels Pins. The shore is mostly rock, with small coves that the town hall lists among the quieter, less crowded spots near Cala Bona. There is no long sandy beach here: Cala Bona’s small beaches are 1.5 to 2 km south, and Sa Marjal, with fine sand, pines and old tamarisks at the south-western end of Costa dels Pins, is under 2 km north.

Port Verd has few shops or services of its own, so daily life leans on its neighbours. Cala Bona, about 1.5 km south, has supermarkets, the harbour and plenty of bars and restaurants, and Cala Millor’s long beach and wider choice of shops are about 10 minutes by car. The nearest public GP unit is in Cala Millor. Son Servera town, about 10 minutes inland, has the health centre with urgent care around the clock and a market on Friday mornings, while hospital care means a 25-minute drive to Manacor.

Bus 412 runs all year from the Cala Bona nord and Port Nou stops, each a few hundred metres away, to Cala Millor, Son Servera and Manacor. From late March to October the A42 airport bus starts at Cala Bona nord. The Son Servera golf club, an 18-hole course founded in 1967, is at Costa dels Pins, about 5 to 10 minutes' drive. In December 2025 the council approved a project for sustainable drainage and shaded areas on the Pintor Miquel Vives road, towards Sa Punta.

Who buys here

Few people are registered as living here: 93 across Port Verd, Port Nou and Port Vell together in 2025, fewer than the 250 to 350 homes licensed in Port Verd alone in the mid-2000s. Expect it to be quiet out of season. Buyers here want a quiet house or flat near the sea, with Cala Bona’s harbour and Cala Millor’s beach close by; anyone hoping for village life should look elsewhere.

Property

Port Verd grew quickly in the mid-2000s. In 2007 the council said a report by the Balearic college of architects had found that licences for 250 to 350 homes, granted under the previous council, did not meet the planning rules, and its planning councillor said the area lacked adequate water and sewerage. Most buildings are one or two storeys: detached houses and small apartment complexes, many with pools. Have a lawyer check any home’s licence and certificates carefully.

Pros and cons

For

  • Quiet residential streets close to the sea
  • Cala Bona’s harbour, shops and beaches 1.5 to 2 km away
  • All-year bus stops a few hundred metres away
  • Golf at Costa dels Pins about 5 to 10 minutes' drive

Against

  • Licences from the mid-2000s building boom need careful checks

Questions buyers ask

How does Port Verd relate to Cala Bona?

It is a separate locality in the municipality of Son Servera, just north of Cala Bona, and the official register groups it with its small neighbours Port Nou and Port Vell. It shares the postcode 07559 with Cala Bona and Costa dels Pins.

What should I check before buying here?

The paperwork, above all. In 2007 the council said licences for 250 to 350 homes in Port Verd, granted under the previous council, were irregular because the area’s water supply and sewerage were not adequate, and that it could not issue the end-of-works certificates owners had asked for until that was put right. Have a lawyer confirm the building licence, the end-of-works and habitability certificates, and the mains water and sewer connections.

Is there a bus nearby?

Yes, a few hundred metres away. The Cala Bona nord and Port Nou stops are served all year by bus 412, about hourly and less often on Sundays, to Cala Millor, Son Servera and Manacor, where trains leave for Palma. The direct Palma bus goes from Cala Millor, and between late March and October the A42 airport bus starts at Cala Bona nord.

Is there a GP or a school nearby?

Not in Port Verd itself. Cala Millor has the public GP unit and the CEIP Na Penyal primary school; Son Servera has a health centre with round-the-clock urgent care, another primary school and the secondary school, IES Puig de sa Font. The hospital is in Manacor, about 25 minutes away.
