Living here

Costa dels Pins (Costa de los Pinos) is a small villa estate among pines on the rocky northern shore of the bay of Son Servera, about 4 km by road from Cala Bona and some 75 minutes' drive from Palma. With about 180 registered residents, an 18-hole golf course and a few small beaches, it is mostly a place for quiet summer houses by the sea.

The estate stretches along the north side of the bay, from the Son Jordi stream in the west to Cap des Pinar, with the wooded Serra de Son Jordi rising behind it. It grew up from the early 1960s around a large hotel, which still stands out above the villas, and the Son Servera golf club was founded here in 1967. The course runs along the inland side of the estate, and part of the ridge above is a protected natural area.

The shore is a mix of cliffs, rocks and small beaches, and the water is very clear. At the south-western end, Sa Marjal has fine sand, pines and old tamarisks, with sunloungers in season, and runs into Es Ribell, a small beach where yachts anchor in summer and which was on the 2026 Blue Flag list. Es Rajolí is a small sandy cove reached by steps, and near the eastern end a rocky spot at a stream mouth suits snorkelling more than sunbathing. A lookout at the end of the main road, restored in 2017, looks back across the bay to Cala Millor and Punta de n’Amer.

About 180 people were registered as living here in 2025, and many houses are second homes, so the estate is quiet out of season. There are a few shops and cafés in the small centre; for a wider choice, Cala Bona, Cala Millor and Son Servera town are all within 15 minutes' drive. Son Servera has the public health centre, with urgent care around the clock, and a market on Friday mornings all year. There is a smaller GP unit in Cala Millor, and the nearest hospital is the public hospital in Manacor, about 25 minutes by car.

Cala Millor, the largest resort on this coast, has a long sandy beach about 6 km away by road, and it is busy all summer. Inland, Son Servera town has the Església Nova, an unfinished neo-Gothic church designed by Joan Rubió, who worked with Gaudí, and begun in the early 1900s. It is now used for concerts and other events. The town’s main festes, for its patron Sant Joan, are held around 24 June. A second golf course, Pula Golf, is a few minutes inland. Canyamel and Artà are each about 20 minutes away, and Porto Cristo about 20 minutes to the south.

Who buys here

Costa dels Pins has long been a summer base for well-off Spanish families, many of them from Madrid and some well known from sport, television and the press. German owners are the other main group, and many houses are second homes used mainly in summer. Anyone buying here should be happy to drive for shops and services; in return they get a detached house among pines, close to the sea and a golf course.

Property

The estate has around 250 houses, nearly all detached villas set among Aleppo pines. Many are built on the slopes above the rocky shore, and most have sea views. Building began in the early 1960s, and few empty plots are left. With the sea in front, the golf course behind and protected hills above, there is little room for the estate to grow. Houses on the cliff edge can be affected by Spain’s Coastal Law, so have the coastal and planning status checked before you buy.

Questions buyers ask

Is Costa dels Pins part of Cala Millor?

No. It is a separate villa estate in the municipality of Son Servera, about 4 km from Cala Bona by road. Cala Millor, the big resort, starts just south of Cala Bona and is shared with the neighbouring municipality of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar.

Does anyone live in Costa dels Pins all year?

Some people do: about 180 residents were registered in 2025. Many of the roughly 250 houses are second homes, though, so the estate is quiet out of season.

Can I get around without a car?

Partly. Bus 412 runs all year, roughly once an hour (less often on Sundays in winter), from Costa dels Pins to Cala Bona, Cala Millor, Son Servera and Manacor. You can change in Cala Millor for the direct bus to Palma, or in Manacor for the train. In the summer season, roughly late March to October, the A42 airport bus leaves from Cala Bona.

Can I extend a house close to the sea?

Check carefully before you buy. Homes on the cliff edge sit close to the public coastal strip, where Spain’s Coastal Law limits building, and a private pool on the shore here became a well-publicised dispute over that law in 2005 and 2006. Part of the hills behind the estate is a protected natural area.
